NICHIBEI (The Japanese Language Institute) was founded in 1967. Since then, more than 9,000 people from 90 countries and regions have been studying at our school. Especially we are teaching business Japanese and also practical conversation mainly using original textbooks written by our instructors. Our mission is to help individuals and corporations from all over the world acquire Japanese language skills that will assist them in business as well as in daily life.

Our school is located in Yotsuya, Shinjuku, in the heart of Tokyo. It takes just 5 minutes to travel from Shinjuku Station to Yotsuya Station by train, and only a 3-minute walk from Yotsuya Station. Inside the office building "COMORE YOTSUYA," where JLI is based, you will find a supermarket, convenience stores, restaurants, and various general shops.

Daytime Intensive Program
Intensive course, 3 hours a day, 5 days a week. The program puts a stress on the acquisition of communication skills such as conversational fluency and works on developing the students’ reading and writing abilities. You will also learn about Japanese manners, culture, and customs.

Basic level focuses on elementary communication skills necessary for work and day-to-day life. By the completion of Basic 3, the student will have learned conversational skills required for ordinary job performance and daily activity. The classes will make effective use of textbooks written in both Japanese and English, as well as picture cards designed to facilitate comprehension.

Advanced level students study the communication ability to fluently interact with native Japanese speakers in all contexts both in the office and in day-to-day life. The student will master the proficiency to effectively handle grievances, make presentations and conduct business negotiations through role-playing and mock meetings.

We provide various support services for students looking to work or start a business in Japan, including CV reviews and mock job interviews.

Some alumni of the Daytime Intensive Program continue their studies with us in the Evening/Saturday Program and through Private Lessons. Our program is primarily hybrid, allowing students to participate both online and in person, with some joining from overseas. The community at JLI lasts forever.
