Classes at Meiji Academy start on a rolling basis, meaning that we have an at-all-times class that suits your nearest Japanese level! All our teachers are native Japanese speakers, who have successfully passed the intensive 420-hour Japanese Language Teacher program and also hold the official Japanese teaching qualification recognized by the Japan Ministry of Education. The qualification and training is equivalent to a secondary education. Moreover, most of our teachers are fluent in both English and Japanese. Although lessons are conducted entirely in Japanese from day one, students can still ask questions in English if necessary. Given the significant amount of time you’ll spend with our teachers, we select only the best instructors for you!

Fully furnished apartments are similar in quality to a hotel room but much more spacious! They include a bed, living area, kitchen area, bathroom, and all necessary amenities for a simple life. Most private apartments are centrally located within walking distance of our school. Students over the age of 18 are welcome to stay in a private apartment.

A private room in a shared housing residence with fellow Meiji students and local Japanese university students offers you the perfect balance between privacy and city life. Toilets, bathrooms, kitchens, and common community spaces are shared. Sharehouses are ideal for university students or young adults on a tight budget. With a few exceptions, the minimum age is 18 years old.

Similar to mixed sharehouses this type of accommodation is exclusively for female students only to provide a safe, secure, and comfortable environment. This accommodation type provides a slightly higher living standard than the mixed sharehouses with a limited number of residents per housing unit. The kitchen, bathroom, and toilet facilities are shared, yet a spacious communal area is offered to allow social exchange with fellow female students.

Living with a Japanese host family is the best way to immerse yourself in the culture and practice what you learned at school. We carefully vet all host family applicants to ensure they provide a conducive environment for your learning and cultural experience. They will likely become your closest companions during your stay, which is why we pay a lot of attention to your needs. You will have a private bedroom but share facilities like the kitchen, bathroom, and laundry.
