How to Leave Japan

Most student visas are 12 months of school & 3 months of free time. At the end of the 15 months (if you haven’t acquired a new visa) you need to leave Japan. Do not leave Japan without completing these tasks, and submitting these documents:

• Notify the School your plans to leave Japan.

• Pay all outstanding bills, rent, or utilities.

• Close your JP Bank account.

• Submit a Notification of Moving Out (Tenshutsu Todoke) at city hall.

• Return both health insurance cards (green and pink) to the city hall.

• Give your residence card to the immigration officer at the airport.
